I recenty emailed fenix and asked if they were planning on releasing the p3d in natural color; they said no. Is anyone else upset about this? I thought they were basically selling p1d-ce nat's before they could even get them on the shelves; sounds like a marketing mistake on their part to me.

I'm with you. It would be really nice to have a single option with these things. They're very popular and the way it is now, everyone ends up with the exact same thing. :thumbsdow

i just ordered one, if the natural was avail, i would have purchased it, just to mix up the usual black, but i do enjoy black.. natural has a suarve style and not so intimidating.

4x7's do you know if the P2D or the L1/2D will be coming in Natural? How about LOD CE?

This is really annoying since Fenix has been saying all along that none of these lights will be coming in Natural, including direct questions in e-mails.

I really doubt you'll see a Seoul P4 in a factory built Fenix unless Seoul improves their product.

The P4 may be easier to design reflectors for, but the Cree XR-E is a better LED. The XR-E has better phosphor, a better thermal path and better life.

I like the floody beam of the SSC. don't like the bright hotspot in the middle of the cree-beams - because I use my lights for closer distance (1-3 m)

That is more a function of the reflector than the LED. If Fenix would actually listen to us and make a textured reflector option for the L1D/L2D/P2D/P3D lights then you might have something closer to what you want.

Hey Luchs, have you thought of using a Cree with a wide angle optic?

Or even in its naked form...

What is your application?

I get the feeling that the Cree XR-E is the more refined product. To me the 'rings' are not an issue.

If you're after a good beam at close range, have you considered multiple emitters and\or a dispersion optic?

I didn't know until now. I put these up when I get the info. I don't withhold
any information guys. No conspiracy here.

From what I understand they have a new finishing process now, the naturals
are going to look and perform better. I handled a sample piece
when I was there and was very impressed.

Yep, the P4 needs lots of improvement, it's more of a temporary part.
The thermal ratings for the P4 is inferior to the XR-E. Besides, the
P4 uses the Cree die. Who would know better to use their parts than
Cree themselves. I've also heard that the Rebel will use different dies
under the same name - the higher lm/w parts may have Cree dies in them.
Either way I'm not holding my breath.

It's one thing to talk about vaporware or "hope"-ware or "dream"-ware,
it's another thing to offer engineered, full production products. I was
priviledged to a factory tour where they explained every step in detail
which took over an hour. I also checked out their R&D department.
Very interesting to say the least!
units.

I guess emailed answers from Fenix regarding future products aren't very reliable.

Probably depends on when you asked and what exactly did you ask.
They are always rapidly developing new things and methods.
I know the new natural annodizing is very recent.
Your sweeping generalizations don't really help.
