Had to do this one for a friend in the UK...
Original light had a LuxI behind an NX05 optic.
This light was a SCREAMER (back in 2001, hehehe)

So anyway, after boiling it in water, in a bag,
I finaly manages to remove the bezel.
I only did an emitter-swap and replaced the optic for
a 20mm SSC-optimized reflector.
The Emitter used was the Seoul USW0H from PhotonFanatic.

Pics showing both stippled and smooth reflectors.
The stippled-reflector has less throw, while the smooth
reflector has more throw... (well DUH !)

The bezel does Not screw down all the way, it can still
have a full turn. I was afraid of sanding down a plastic
reflector, but I might get to do it in the future.

The result is a stunning emitter collaminating it's light
by a 20mm reflector.

The circuit was not changed, so it can still run from
the same amount of cells as used to, and be brighter and
more efficient, while producing less heat also...

Check out my KL4 & Cree mod also here:

Bombel - sanding a plastic reflector is not a problem. The times I've done it, I've used finer grit sandpaper. Other than that, it's pretty much the same as sanding an aluminum one.

Re: ?-?-? Bombelman Old-Style KL1 SSC mod ?-?-?

Very nice mod :twothumbs

That VB1/KL1 combo looks really cool. My VB1 is my most used EDC.

Sweet mod! I'm doing the same to a old kl1 head except I planned on using the stock optics. Now I'm thinking reflector too. I didn't know they were available:sigh:

Get the 17mm reflectors from my Good Buddy FRED Pilon aka PhotonFanatic.
He has Lux and Seoul models...

Colin, Apart from (2) Arcs I EDC on my Belt, the KL4Cree+FB1 is a full-time rider in my side-pocket too !!

bombelman,

I just finished installing the SSC P4 in my kl1 today. The output is greatly increased but the beam pattern is uneven due to the molding sprue on the stock optic. The SSC P4 used in this mod came from photonfanatic.....I should have ordered the reflector at the same time. There always the next order:laughing:.

hmmm I also have a KL1 with SSC and the stock optic and the beam pattern is quite round still and no sidespill... Shuold be fine I think ? Which KL1 version are you using ? I understand there were 2 or 3 different optics that were used...

I think its a gen 2. It has the 4 finned head with a scalloped bezel . I'm quite happy with the results tho. The beam pattern is round except for the one spot where the tab on the optic is disrupting it. There also is a nice sidespill.
