Received two C-LEs today.
First impression:
Not bad, but I have seen better
lights in this class.
The theads are loose, rough an dirty.
PWM is not noticeable.

CLE1.jpg

1 - Well designed (IMO)

CLE2.jpg

2 - Machining marks

CLE3.jpg

3 - Glue in the threads, glue under the reflector, glue everywhere

CLE4.jpg

4 - Not easy to open

CLE5.jpg

5 -

CLE6.jpg

6 - No thermal paste found

CLE7.jpg

7 - All parts together

I hope, you have a good heat-gun.

How did you get it open without marring it up?

no thermal paste is a concern... I have two on the way I was going to give as gifts. Hope they prove to be reliable...

Seems like they
should be as long as you don't use 14500 cells in them.

Don't use 14500 with new version C-LE! I saw a user in China forums immediately smoked one with 14500.

I use 14500's in mine, not sure which version it is. How can you tell anyway?

My quick comparison: http://candlepowerforums.com/vb/showpost.php?p=2002657&postcount=56

I think the new version could be distinguished by:
1. Larger threading space (loose)
2. Much higher PWM frequency
3. orange color o-ring
4. Memory function

I think the memory function is the big difference. PWM frequency feeling is differ person by person. :D

I wonder if the "fix" might be as easy as prying the LED/PCB off of the heat sink slightly (possibly without un-soldering the leads), and nursing a small drop of epoxy to flow beneath the PCB... press the LED/PCB down until cured, and voila. Can't think why that wouldn't work.

I've got one on the way, so I'm just kinda' thinkin' out loud...

Helpful pics, Energie... thanks!

That's what I would do.BUT before you do that make sure you like the bin that's in there( EZ to replace it now befere you epoxy it in)But I still wouldn't run it with 14500's.

The stock emitter of the Jetbeam C-LE is not bad.
10% brighter than the emitter of the Ultrafire C2
and 10% dimmer than a star, which I have got from Waion here on CPF
(P4 WC 80,6-87,4 lm @ 350 mA).

I feel that the new version is also brighter...the defective one that I received in Febuary was disappointingly dim, in fact I hated it. Then it just stopped working anyhow.

Received a "new" version as Emil promised and it is definitely brighter. Threads once cleaned and lubed a little a nice. Perfect feel in the hand. If only it could take 14500's but I won't ruin what has turned out to be a pleasant surprise.

Mine is from the Unforgiven group buy so I suppose it would be considered old version. It has no machine marks, very good anodizing, nice smooth threads once I cleaned them, nice tint and plenty bright enough on a Eneloop. I have never pulled it apart so I can't comment on the internals. I think better things have come along since (Rexlight cost me slightly less) for the same money but at the time I bought the light it was good value.

I have one from CEJ's groupbuy. Threads are good, ano is good, and the head was easy to open (a little glue, but that's it). I have not pulled out the LED yet, but my Q5's are not here yet either.:D

No wonder the head doesn't get "hot" like a WF-602D. I too have the machining marks half way around the head. I have a small chip down to the bare metal on the battery tube. I suspect the "seasonal sale" was to get rid of all the factory seconds at only a minor discount.
