Will the new Cree XR-E P4 LED 170 lumen bulb work with the Surefire M3 light?
I suppose I would have to remove the M3 reflector, but will it work?

The Cree drop-in I am speaking about is the version by Wolf Eyes/PTS:Cree XR-E LED 3.7V-13V D26 Lamp *High Output* [HO D26/Cree LED] Cree XR-E P4 LED *170 Lumen* 3.7V-13V D26
I presume if I remove the M3 reflector and drop-in the Cree, it might be too small. Any opinions are appreciated; even the mean ones.

It wont work, the dropin module in that link states it's for P60/90 lights.
An M3 dropin would need to look something like this:
