the hd's use a new process for applying the phospher, and as a result tend to be *slightly* brighter. also, the pattern from the hd will travel farther than the ld, so it is better for shooting things a little further away. the hd will produce a kind of *squarish* beam, whereas with the ld, the beam will be pretty much round.
