A quick question: am I correct in assuming stock LED Maglites use a luxeon-like LED instead of the more efficient CREE/Seoul, and are therefore not very bright at all?

Compared to all the new lights they are not that bright anymore.
But according to the output numbers at the flashlightreviews.com review, the 3 cell magLED is 25% brighter than the 2 cell, and 10% brighter than the 4 cell! Throw in a glass replacement lens, to allow up to 10% more light through, and you are up to 1/3 brighter than a 2 cell MagLED and original stock plastic lens. (And instead of the 3D M*g, try the 3C size, it's much lighter weight and more "ergonomic".)

I wouldn't say 'not bright at all'...
I didn't say "not bright at all".
I said "not very bright at all".
There's a small but significant difference
