I bought mine from cpfer quite recently and I think it has a low SNo. number on it. I just want to know whether Surefire uses a running serial no. for each type of product or as per production and whether the number is exclusive or not. I am also trying to know the actual age of my latest love......So can you please post your SNo. and the year if you know it. Only for KL5 head.

I'll start first......

KL5 #: A00640

I think I bought this when they first came out. I've had it for at least 2 years.

I think you can tell more about the age of a KL5 by the shape of the head than you can by serial numbers.

There have been threads about the different heads. You might find information with a search.

My KL5 is of the first type made. The head has one groove and then tapers down to the diameter of the L5 body. Sorry no pictures.

Yeah, I saw a thread discussing the difference in the head design, the crown and the centre pieces are all the same accepth the lower section that meets the body. Two variations, a tapered corner and a square corner...

BTW 0640 is a nice number IMO

I have at least 3 of the L5s. The one I have on my desk here at work is serial # AO6412. I have no idea when it was made, as I just got it yesterday from another forumite.

Not sure if this counts. Bought a KL5 from Lighthound. Lighthound breaks down L5's and sells heads separately. My KL5 was bought last fall (06) and is the square corner type. SN A04104.

Ah the first squared corner!. I'am also assuming the others here is of the tapered corner type.

The KL5's bought after June 06, maybe a few months earlier, are the square corner type unless they had been sitting on a dealer's shelf for some time.

Keep em coming guys.... I am sure there are lots more. I could have thought that the squared corner version is the earlier version than the tapered version.
