Probably not, it might burn out the regulator.
Your 14500 @ 4.2V will damage the light, but a 3.0V cell works great and is much much brighter. You can find AA size 3.0V lithium ion batteries with some difficulty or disassemble a two cell CR-V3 lithium camera battery. Rechargeable CR-V3 lithium ion cells are available, but I haven't tried them yet. Lastly, I think the threads on an UltraFire C3 extension tube match the MTE and would allow a 2XAA configuration.

glass doesn't scratch during cleaning and it allows more light thru the window then plastic.
+1 on the 3V primary AA (1/2 CRV 3) recommendation.

I believe that the two tubes will thread together fine, but the tailcap diameter on the C3 extension tube is smaller. Accordingly, you would need the tailcap for the C3. I've asked Kyle at DX to see if he can make these available.
