Has anyone noticed that most of the cree lights only use 1 battery? Either 1AA, 1AAA, 1 CR123, etc. If the cree can attain such high lumens, then why do the manufacturers limit their ability by making the lights only take 1 battery when most older lights take 2 or 3?

I know extension tubes are available for some models, but why not make them for 2 cells in the first place, like the mini-mag, etc.

The Fenix L2D-CE looks like something I'd want, but the multi-modes and higher price turn me away. A single stage 2AA for $20 would interest me.

Its mainly just the cheaper brands/no brands that are pumping the smaller cree lights out... and theyre making them smaller because they can and they've realise some people like using rechargable lithiums which have higher voltage than primary cr123 batteries. and the price of Fenix lights have been creeping up... because people know that they make good quality lights now but they are still moderately cheap compared to some other brands...although there are still better quality lights some around the same price but others for more...
And also circuitry seems to have gotten better as well, it use to only be expensive lights had regulated outputs...now alot of the cheap lights are as well

If you want cheap 2AA then you should look at the lights at dealextremes they do have a few 2AA lights now, with interchangable battery options for about $20 shipped
