    Hi download,

I am a total newbie in modding; I have been lurking the forum for a while as I have an itch to upgrade my 6D M@g. I am still confused however... Would the 5 LEDs be connected in series or parallel? What driver should I use and where can I buy it? Would 6 NiMH or alkaline be able to power 5 LEDs?

Pardon me if this is totally out of topic; I have been reading a lot of posts but I'm still confused.

    Many thanks,
    Kurni

    Hi Kurni,

    For 6 x D size Battery, it is 9V.
Use MaxFlex, 5 x Cree in serial.
Remember add heatsink to maxFlex too.
This is the best & simple multi-level solution.

    http://www.taskled.com/maxflex.html
If you do not drive the LED too hard like 1.2A each, there will be OK. 500mA setting would be fine for alkaline & 1A is OK for NiMH.

Or use a few/5 stepdown driver to parallel wire them individually. Depend what driver current you chose, like 500mA/700mA each.

    Hi Charles,

At the moment I'm weighing the mod against TerraLUX drop in because I have never done any mod before; I wonder however if you would stock Q5 warm tint such as WH?

Your WC Q5 has a 16mm small board; the bottom of the board is not conductive right? I mean, I don't need to add any electrical insulator between the board and the heatsink, do I?

I assume 4 Cree configuration does not require the 16mm small board to be cut, does it?

MaxFlex seems to be the most appropriate driver; I'm just thinking how to place it inside M@g without short circuiting the board especially with the copper wire hanging from the board to M@g body.

Wouldn't it be nice to have a drop-in switch tower than incorporate MaxFlex and its heatsink so all a newbie like me need to do is to connect the LED in series, arrange them on the heatsink, and connect to the switch/MaxFlex module I would love my 6D again, at the moment Fenix P2D RB100 puts it to shame.

    Many thanks,
    Kurni

Kurni: for modding beginner, I would suggest the MagCTower heatsink for TerraLUX with Mag C cell.
Sorry no Q5 warm tint yet, it will be easy to find at Marketplace.
The WC Q5 Cree with 16mm small board is isolated, board have no connection with + & - of emitter.
Nothing has to add but thermal compound.
6x 16mm small board can be fit into Mag head, sure 4 does not need to be cut.
Wire the MaxFlex near the switch tower, 4 wires need to connect to it. Solder a copper strip to heatsink area of MaxFlex & try to fix it with thermal-epoxy to Mag body, let the heat go.

I am working on drop-in tower, still in paper. Hope will see it soon. Thanks!

    beetleguise: got your paypal, thanks.

    Download,
do you know if 5 x McR-18Seoul would fit for a D-mag with your heatsink especially heightwise.

    Thanks,Alex

Alex, the Diameter of McR-18Seoul do not fit for 5x, 4x will be OK. Height of McR-18Seoul is OK for D-mag.

    4x McR-18Seoul in D-mag.
    6x McR-16 fit in D-mag.

    5x McR-17-XR fit in C-mag.
    6x McR-16-XR fit in C-mag.

They got them in stock at the sandvich shoppe, but the link for the dimensions doesn't work .
I suppose they shouldn't be to different and even if they are a bit higher or shorter should work,but...

    Got a few more questions.
The same sink works for C-Mag and D-Mag,right?
Which reflectors you've used in your five emitter 1D-Mag in the photo?
Do the ones you had for sale work for the D-Mag in 5 emitter/reflector configuration?
Will you get them in stock again?

    Thanks,Alex

    Alex,
The internal diameter is Mag C & D head are same. Not the same height only.
The Multi-Sink is designed to fit both of it. And to solve most of different height of reflectors & Lenes fitting problems.

The Mag1D use the "B. Diameter 17mm Cree MOP Metal reflector x5"

1 set of "B" left only.

    Enjoy your mod!

Please notes the Q3 Vin is similar to Q4 & Q5.

    Hey Download -

Love your mod. It's a fantastic idea. I have a question for you - do you know if 4x Khatod 20mm SMO reflectors will fit inside a MagC head?

    http://www.khatod.com/pdf/kclp_lambertian.pdf

If yes - then I'm all in for one of your adjustable heatsinks.

    Cheers!
