When testing a new bulb, especially a bright one, don't stare at it.

I hope you learned that "looking down the barrel" is not a good idea. Point it in a safe direction next time !

Well that was part of the problem. I was bench-testing a bulb. It wasn't installed in a light. So the light was going every direction and I happened to look at it.
