I got my new e2L today and decided to check the function on my e1L body, it WON'T light up at all on 1 cr123 cell. The new e2L body won't accept 17670 cells so I used an older body and the KX2 will work at full power on a 17670 cell.

This looks to me that the KX2 would work on 3.6-4.2V of a RCR123 but not at 3.0-3.25 V of the CR123 primaries. Could you verify that?

Thanks.

It'll be interesting to see how low a voltage the KX2 will take before shutting down. If it shuts down at around 3.1v then using unprotected li-ions in an aftermarket body becomes a reasonable idea. If it shuts down at--say--3.7v, then SF engineers have just been hard at work trying to increase battery sales....

Yes increasing runtime from 6 hours to 14 hours on the E2L is really an attempt to increase their battery sales. 17670's fit in my new E2L body and work in it. Sorry to hear they don't fit in yours.

I did a current draw test on my E2L, with 2 cr123's at 6 volts, it draws 155mA, so you should get some good runtime with one RC123 before it drops too much.

Someone do it TW4 style with the EX2, please? (remember when 1 CR123 woudlnt fully power a KL4, so someone wised up and rammed a Li Ion in there?)

With the fresh SF primaries I had 120 or 130 mA at the tailcap of my E2L Cree. ZERO, zippo, nada with a single primary.

A single 17500 fits the body width with ease (yeah I know it's too short!), @ OCV ~4.05 vDC, fed 200 mA into the KX2 while producing what appeared to be a normal amount of light.

Regarding available cell space, the KX2 must be fully screwed on to work, and there is no spring at the bezel end. The "shelf" between the negative end of the cell and tailcap will be a hard constraint on the cell length...would a 17670 be a "crush" fit between the bezel and "shelf" and screw up the protection circuit?!

ETA:the OP metioned 17670 not fitting, but was not specific why. Too long?

Somewhere between 3 and 4 volts.

Later in the week the 17500 cells are run down farther (used in Pelican M3 LED) and I'll try one again.

RANT MODE ON: Will the QA guy who tested my tailcap switch please report to the front office...for about 10 whacks with a rattan cane. ANOTHER "sticks on at times randomly" crowd pleaser.:thumbsdow It has the white plastic internals I thought were the upgraded/revised ones. Thumb pressure is also notably more than the old E2L.

The 17670 wouldn't fit all the way down in the tube. Its too fat. It went in about 3/4 inch and couldn't be forced any further. My older e2e body accepts them fine.
