I want to donate 250 "photon" type lights to the marines.
My question : has any 1 tested or owned a few kinds of these small keychain type lights?

I have not tested them.Any of the cheepies made in "chiwan" good..any good bang for the buck?I prefer to not spend 15$ each.

To be clear , im talking about these lights about the size of a quarter with 1 LED.

Thanks
Dave

We call the cheap ones "Fauxtons". They're not quite as good as the real thing but they are a terrific value and very practical. I buy about 20 at a time and test them all when they arrive. There are usually one or two duds in each batch and the rest work.

Most of us get them from http://dealextreme.com of http://kaidomain.com for around 45 cents each shipping included-- it wouldn't surprise me if lighthound also gets them from there. http://qualitychinagoods.com was also a favorite supplier til fairly recently and I think Dae is still around, but there were some changes over there and it's not clear what's going on. They have a wholesale site as well (linked from the url I gave).

I've probably tried 100 or so of this type of light and I'd guess the failure rate is 10% or so. I don't worry about it too much. They are cheap and small enough that you can carry a spare if you think it matters.

I just went to DX and tried out an order to see how much 250 of those photon type leds would be and it came out to be a little under $100 shipped for all of them.

http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.1253

25 of those and typing in the coupon code BULKRATE for the bulkrate would come under $100 shipped. 25 X 10 comes out to be 250.

Hope that helps.

I can say I thought the Lighthound ones were better then the CountyComm ones they were selling for a dollar.

I bought 20 from DX and 10 from Kaidomain in the last 6 months. I only had one failure from Kaidomain.

The 1st ten were for gifts for family, last 10 for kid's b-day goody bags.

IMHO, I think either of these guys is the way to go. The lights are brighter than my ARC AAA-P R4.

They are not water resistant, the switch is a novelty and not worthwhile, it is cheaper to buy new light rather than buy new batteries.

Good Luck!

I have received a few of them and they worked just fine. If you are worried about some not working then you could just buy more than 250 as it would still be cheaper than the ones from Lighthound and you could get about 2.5X more for the same price.

I bought 5 of these Keychain lights from Batteryjunction and about the same time received one of the free ones from Lighthound with an order I placed.

The ones from BJ and LH are identical as far as I can tell. The price on Battery junctions web site is $1.25 ea, but I was only charged $1.15 a piece.

These are very bright key chain lights. Brighter than the Photon Freedom or the Photon 2x that I ordered at the same time as the 5. I think for the price, you can't go wrong.
