Very nice upgrade. Easy to do also. I just did it to my 4D MAG. I can light up the neighbors yard across the Cul-de-sac with it.

Sounds like your dad needs more than reliable, he needs absolutely bulletproof, it'll be worth the money for him to get a Malkoff drop-in.

3 times the price of the TerraLUX model..... but if your life (or your Dad's) depends on it, then the Malkoff is the one to get.

There are many lights that are actually "fire rated", and for use around hazardous materials..... so.... you might want to check some of those out too.

Some folks have said that LEDs don't pierce smoke quite as well as an incandescent, but of course an incandescent bulb can "go out" at the wrong time too...... so...... there are many things to consider. Have fun looking.

Since you seem to be asking about replacing the LED in a MagLED, I think it will not be so easy, unless you are good with a soldering iron. I don't think too many folks have done this mod. As suggested previously there are a few good options for converting a regular incand. Mag.

he's not into flashlights but he likes his magled, he dosen't go into burning buildings anymore so being bullet proof is not a concern. I just need to know if when he is searching for the cause of the fire after it has been put out that it will not turn angry blue.

sorry but gean's is way out of budget I need to know about this led http://batteryjunction.com/tle-6k2.html its a silver 3d mag

I replied to this in post #3. I am using it in a 4D MAg and love it. It was an easy upgrade that greatly improved the performance of my MAG. I have seen no drop in the brightness, even after almost an hour of use. This thing has a tested 20 hours of run time on the 4D MAG's and above. I think it a fantastic upgrade that will not put too much of a dent in the wallet.

Here is a rather lengthy thread that will give you all the info you could ever need about this drop-in. It gets really good reviews.
