E1 Led upgrade w/o changing head

Not sure if this is the forum for this question, as it may be a mod. Looking to increase the output of my E1 winelight, hopefully w/o doubling the cost or making it 2 tone. Bearing in mind I have never modded a light other than to replace a P60 w/ a P61, etc, is there any way to improve the rather dismal output of this light? I would prefer LED to Lumens factory offerings, mostly due to longevity.

Thanks!

As for a drop-in unit that replaces the lamp assembly, I don't believe one exists. There just isn't enough space between the batteries and the stock reflector for an LED light engine. Not to say it can't be done. I've seen where someone has bored out the reflector and built a custom LE to fit.

McGizmo can hack your head to take an LED (used to anyways)
There's also Lumens Factory's RCR123 lamps

Yowza! Well as a person who has never done any modding, I am afraid that is a bit beyond my ken. I am still trying to understand how LED's work.

Thanks for the ideas guys!
