Orb raw mod

I have an Orb Raw 3W (LuxIII) which I was thinking of modifying with a SSC P4 emitter.
I plan to remove the required amount from the back of the reflector (0.030inch I think I read somewhere), and swap the emitter over.
I was wondering if anyone else had done this mod?
If so, could you share your experience, and was it worth doing?

How much does Rob at Orb charge if you ship it back to him? I was thinking of doing the same but it's so damn bright to begin with in U bin Luxeon. . .

I don't think Rob at Orb has used the SSC P4 emitter. The new Orbs use the Cree XRE emitter.
When Rob started with the Cree emitters he offered a service to upgrade you light for around £30. I beleive he dosn't offer this anymore, seeing as a basic Cree Raw is £35, it's not worth while.
Yes it is bright as it is, but I have one with a two stage switch, so I have low and bright.

If anyone knows how to replace an Orb's emitter, there's a broken Orb Raw Ns for sale in the marketplace right now.

Very simple as none of the parts are glued in. Remove the PCB and simply de-solder the emitter. Place a new one with heat sink compound or glue and re-solder and reassemble. (Rob sells bare emitter boards (these are direct drive with a switch and a resistor) and I have several with different color leds)

Rob's price has gone up. He charges 35 pounds, which is now more than $70 in these low dollar value Fifty States.

Not sure if the Crees will fit in the same head.
SSC will fit. The stock reflector is quite "hard" to sand.
Stock it does work too, but it can also be replaced.

I can also help if needed.

The U-bin is quite bright already, but the SSC is more efficient
so you'll have more runtime and also less heat...

Thanks bombelman. I'm not going to sand the reflector.
I'm going to ask the guys in a machine shop at work to turn the reflector for me, might cost me a drink or two!

Hope thay can do it... The from "rim" is roundish, not sure if it will chuck.

If you have an McR-18, you can also have them try turning that down.
Those are also excellent performers IMHO !!
