Let me apologize in advance for my ignorance.

1. What is a star?

2. Is the Luxeon I, V, III & K2 a progression to the Rebel?

For example is the Rebel superior in all aspects to the previous models of Phillips Lumis?

3. Also does the 3w and 5w mean 3 and 5 watt? Is that the minimum power needed to run them?

1. The star is what the emitter comes mounted on. They are in sheets or rolls.

2. I think you can say that those LEDs are a progression toward the rebel.

3. I'll probably give the wrong answer for #3, but I think that is what they are supposed to be able to output at a specific current.

#3 Yes, that it their APPROXIMATE power output at the rated current.

For example:
Luxeon 1W: 350mA rated current X 3.5V forward voltage = 1.2 watts power output
Luxeon 3W: 1000mA rated current X 3.5V forward voltage = 3.5 watts power output
Luxeon 5W: 750mA rated current X 6.5V forward voltage = 4.9 watts power output

without getting pickey,
its the power they consume :) when run at the specs they were designed to operate at, which doesnt always happen IN the devices they are used in.
