Hey Guys,

This is going out to anyone who has recently acquired a new
Novatac light and has a modded HDS light.

I would love to see some side by side beam shots:naughty:

Hopefully we will see.
I'd love to see how HDS's smooth reflector beam
compares to Novatacs.

My Novatac arrived today and I hope to do some beamshots tonight.

I've tested the flashlight in my Lightbox and on max it reads 205 (vs 270 repeated with my HDS Seoul Mod).

As promised here are the beamshot comparisons.

*Test jig to tree approx 66 feet
*All new shots, ISO 200, Shutter 2", F2.8, WB Daylight
*Each flashlight placed in exactly the same position between shots.
*Repeated lightbox measurements

The Seoul Modded HDS is slightly brighter when comparing the lights directly by eye.

since I might be getting a 120P and I already have a surefire G2, can you put a light with a P60 running on primaries out there?
Thanks much,
Flash

SMC do you know why the HDS has a bigger hotspot? Do you have the stock retaining ring on the B42?

That would explain the difference in the size of the spill.

In my opinion those beam shots comparing the lights doesn't represent the reality of the beam.
The Novatac has a hotspot which gradually spreads out u=into side spill. there is no drastic change as shown in the images above.
I have looked at my novatac against all of my HDS EDC with the same result the beams really are completly different.

Anyone here compare it to an Amilite T5? I already made a post but thought I would ask. :)

Hi Yaesumofo,

The beam profile of my Novatac appears very similar to my Seoul HDS, but I agree the stock HDS is very different.

However I thought the beamshots, especially the desaturated photos illustrated this. They both show a nice hotspot (difficult to judge the actual throw) and smooth side spill transition.

The stock HDS shows a tight hotspot, dark area halfway down the garden and then an area of side-spill.

This can be seen in real life use of the lights not just with my square beamshot eyes :)
