at the moment I'm planning to make a new mag 100:twothumbs. some time ago I was decided to use a mag 3D but now I realized that I can use a 6D saving some money (no battery holder is needed;)),
so I'm going to use a 6D (I already have one), kiu socket (on it's way:green:), some elites 1500 2/3A from CBP (I haven't bought them yet),( I was thinking to use 11,12 or 13) and a 12v 50W bulb as LOw bulb ( 35W too) + a 12V 100W bulb as high bulb.
my only problem is to find some good 12V bulb (I think that best brand is OSRAM?:candle:) becouse I don't know them very well and I don't want to buy something that will not satisfy me:thumbsdow:crazy:

EDIT: excuse me but I'm not going to use an hotdriver, so please, do not suggest bulbs that need hot drivers

thanks!

thanks for the fast reply!
I think that for the LO bulb I can run the same bulb that you are using in your 6D but which is the most powerful osram 12V 100W bulb on my battery set up? (I can use 11, 12 or 13 batts...depends by the bulb)
maybe 64623 with 13 ???
another little thing...I have 2 FM's reflector (MOP & VLOP) with small hole and any osram bulb won't fit...in your opinion can I use a drill or a dremel to enlearge the reflector hole?

thanks lux.
I have seen that the 3rd mor powerful is the 64623 and I've also read a lot about this bulb...so at the end I think I'll choose this bulb as high bulb and the 64610 as LO. however do you think that I can have a good throw with a MOP reflector and the 64623?
my biggest problem at the moment is the reflector...do you think I need to buy a new reflector with larger hole or can I mod my own one?

Honestly, no. I would say the 623 is a showboat bulb to flood-light everything in a very wide arc, or to start fires.

You stand a pretty good chance of the reflector mirror coating flaking off during the process of enlarging the hole. It is extremely vulnerable to scratches from flying dremel shrapnel.

I supposed this reply, I think that with a 2" reflector and a really big filament is inevitable to have a flood beam...however I'll still choose 623...:D

REFLECTOR: OK, no dremel...what about using a 12mm drill (max diam. of 623 is 11,5 mm, right?) @ no more than 100 RPM...

there is another problem!
I have tried to search the osram 623 with google (I want to order my bulbs in italy) but I haven't found any online shop!
I can get without any problem the 64610 but no the 64623:mad:
at the same shop I have found the 64625 (the usl bulb) but I'm not so happy! from the 3rd position to the 5th!:sigh:

I think that I'll buy 2X64610 + 2X64625.

I'm quite sure that I have to change the battery set up too (the usl mod is driven at 13,2V) so do I need to use 11 batts or can I go with 12 (rested 3-5 hours)?:poke:
with formula I obtain ( I suppose to use the batteries when they are set at 1.35V per batts):
12*1.35=16.2V
so with formula the life is : (((12/16.2)^12)*50)=1.36h
what do you think? please check the formula, is it correct?:caution:

what about the 64610? can I still run this bulb with 13 batts?

thanks in advance!:candle:

Everything I've read calls for eleven cells max for the 64610 in direct drive otherwise :poof:

Ok so I think I'll made dummy to have the space of 12 cells when I run the 64610...not too bad:whistle:
what about 64625 will it insta-flash at 16,2?
I'll sure use some spacers with batteries so I'll add resistence...:poke:

The 64625 will instaflash using 12 cells, which gives more like 14.4 volts than 16.2 because of voltage sag under load (and you will only get as much as 14.4V with high current cells). The 64625 needs about 12.5 or 12.6V max at the bulb for best results. You can run the 64625 off of 11 cells if they are rested overnight because some of the 13.2V provided by 11 cells is dropped by resistance sources, but even the USL, which has been built for low resistance, can run the 64625 if the cells are rested properly. Read here for more info.

thanks for all the infos! you are really prepered:twothumbs
so at the end I need:

metal reflector from FM with 12mm hole
11 elites 1500 from CBP (I will take 15, becouse is possible to find a bad cell)
PVC tube
2X64625 osram bulb
2X64610 osram bulb
mag D high temp socket

I want to buy 2/3A cell instead of 4/5SC becouse as soon as I can find the 64623 I want to run it with 13 batts...

thanks to all!
please tell me if I've missed something or you simply have to give some advicese!

I've got a Mag138 from ...hmmm. I forget. Tri-bored 13.2V 1400mAh pack.
Anyway, I pulled the 62138 bulb and substituted the 64625 bulb. It runs quite well. I haven't popped the bulb yet. I recharge before bed and the pack sits overnight. Of course I haven't actually measured voltage at the pins while running. I really like the 138. Nice hot spot. The 625 might be brighter but it's pretty much a flood bulb compared to the 138 and 275. Of course nothing like the flood of the 623.
I think the 138 is going to be a candidate for a 4/5A or A cell pack light in the future.

how many B-Lumens is the 62138?
I like the idea of a very powerful bulb that makes a good hot spot...

so @ 13,2 B-Ls are:
((13,2/12)^3.3)*2800)=3834
I was thinking about a little bit more power...:sigh:
which would be the runtime of the 62138 compared with the 64625?
(both drived by 11 elites 1500)

Not sure of the run time but I'm thinking that 64625 would be a great bulb to use. I read somewhere on here that the 64625 has the most surface brightness of any bulb of that type/size. I think thats what I'm going to use with 12 Elite 1800's. That should be 4,687 bulb lumens and 3,046 torch lumens. Yep, that'll do:)

yes!
I was only thinking about the 138 becouse of the HOT SPOT question....
However I have already ordered the 64625 :D

and another thing: I think you run the risk of inst-flashing the 64625 if driven with 12...
