These were 2 Stock Surefire M1 Infrared *torches* or *illuminators*.
(or whatever they were supposed to be).
I had no use for infrared light, so I decided to mod them, like
some guys on the forum did already.
Most mods I saw were on the head (Milkman) or the threads (Fred).
I went a few steps further...
1) Bored the the whole body to fit 18500, 1500mAh cells.
Double of what it used to take (R123 @ 750mAh) :thumbsdow
2) Bored the head and removed the stupid aperture in the front.
They now fit an McR-20 fine !!
3) Inner head walls were also threaded e-series so that the head can
just accept Light-Engines with E-series screws, or even Arc LS circuits !
4) Delrin Tailcap mod
5) . . . . (I have yet to decide/publish)...
This mod was collecting dust eversince I got these M1s a few months
ago. Theyare not yet finished, but keep visiting this thread for progress.
I plan on doing one with Cree and the other with an SSC emitter and
with similar regulator boards, so I can do side-by-side comparisons.
btw, Both units are Surefire M1, however, 1 came with a momentairy
and the other came with a clicky. Furthermore, the bodies are
different... One has 4 gaps, the other 5... Did not know there were
different revisions of the M1. The 18500 fits both fine tho.
Keep coming back for progress. Questions and suggestions very welcome.
Cheers !!
EDIT1:
Here's a pic showing a threaded can screwed in the head with a standard sammie...
EDIT2:
Here you see the difference in body-length...
You can see the tailcap on the right screws down further.
The M1 on th eleft can take 5 O-rings on the body, while
the M1 on the right can only take 4 O-rings...
