*edit* Since johnny13oi concluded I was dealer, I am stating that no I am not. I joined the forums the other day from a referral from another forum I frequent, and I had ordered one of these flashlights. I say people wanting it, but they could not find it in stores, so I was just sharing where I got mine from, since I too could not find it locally. I apologize if I am out of line here. New forum, new rules I guess.

I ordered mine online, it cost me a total of $32 shipped via UPS.
I contacted Rayovac customer support to find out where to get it, and this is the reply they gave me:

At this time, the unit is not offered online. You can order this unit
directly from us, though. The cost per light is $27.00 and shipping and
handling is added to your total order. I can send you out an ordering
form OR you can call us directly to place your order on either a visa
or
mastercard. The number to reach us at is 1-800-237-7000. Let me know if
there is anything else I can help you with. Thank you!

I know this is my first post, and I did a few searches and found a couple
of reviews here, and a ton of people interested in buying this flashlight.

Which is why I posted how I got mine, I could not find it locally anywhere.

Initial thoughts, with pictures to follow.

I haven't owned any high dollar flashlights, and I am rather new to a lot of the terminology etc. I just know I like flashlights, but I can't afford the real expensive ones. I also like quality.

Build quality: Initial feel was good, the flashlight has a rubber sleeve which fits rather loosely on it, and can easily be removed. In my opinion, it isn't a good feature, as it slips when attempting to remove the tail cap, or turn the head.

The paint/anodized finish does not seem quite as durable as the finish on a Maglite, but it is sufficient, since this really isn't a flashlight built to take a lot of abuse.

With the batteries in, the flashlight has a good weight to it, but if shaken the batteries rattle around a bit. The flashlight will operate while being shaked.

Inside the tube, for the batteries, there is only 1 spring, and thats on the tail cap.

The O-rings seem to be of lower quality rubber. I would recommend replacing them, if you foresee using this light in heavy rain, or a really dusty environment.

There is no reflector, just a focusing lens. The head will rotate complete off like a Maglite, and I am pretty sure it has the ability to act like a candle, though I wouldn't recommend it.

It does use a Cree LED (I don't know if thats good or bad)

I can't afford to abuse the light and see what kind of abuse it can take, but by the feel of it, I do not think it could stand up to to much abuse.

Again, I can post pictures later of it being disassembled, and all the parts.
Another user on this forum posted some good shots of how its beam looks, and the longevity of it. I will run a longevity test using some plain old Duracell C alkaline batteries.

Overall, I am very pleased with this light for $32 I payed for it shipped directly from Rayovac.

Why would it be spam? I realize it was my first post, I attempted to make it productive.

Maybe if I was a dealer. I simply posted ordering information, because the other posts I read that where made a while back, had people wanting the light, but did not know where to get it.

I just happened to get mine yesterday in the mail, and started taking pictures, and thought I would post how I got mine, and what my thoughts where on it.

Sorry.

Hi silthdraeth,

Sorry about you being treated rudely right off the bat. I would like to welcome you to CPF. Also, thank you for the short review and the info for where you got the light from. You are right. There are some of us here that have been searching all of our local stores in hopes of finding one of these(me included). Now, those that are tired of waiting have the opportunity to get one any time they want. Again, I thank you. Please hang around for awhile. You will find alot of great people here. Just watch your wallet though....It can become quickly emptied around here.

Thank you. I am hoping the first reply was done with no real ill will. I know true spam is a real concern.

My wife already nags me about my obsession over flashlights. Trust me, if I had more money to blow, a large portion would be spent on more flashlights.

Welcome silthdraeth,

I think it was great for you to share how you got this light. I've been checking the local Wally Worlds and heven't come home with one yet.

Thanks again....if I hadn't just spent a mess-o-money on lights recently I'd be ordering one.

Welcome to CPF silthdraeth!

Might I suggest Dealextreme if you want to purchased cheaper lights(Some are actually built pretty well for the price).

The light uses a Cree led but since the bin is unknown, it might only be as efficient as a Luxeon III. How bright is it?

I have a good picture of the LED with the numbers on it. I don't have anyway to test the actual lumen. I believe another poster on here was able to do a comparison against something pushing 200 lumen and it was pretty close to that.

It seems really bright to me though. The packaging reports 150 lumen.

Yeah sorry .. my apologies. I'm just on a few other forums and see spam all the time with people trying to scam other people out of their money. Welcome to CandlePowerForums. Once again, sorry.

I uploaded pictures. I have several more showing each piece individually as far as I was willing to go taking it apart.

So, any information on that LED?

Meijer's in Ohio just got them, and I bought one on the way to work. The star says "WPG Tech" on top, and "CREE XLAMP 7090B" at the bottom. It's got a transparent sticker that says "YY-A". I believe WPG Tech is the Chinese distributor for CREE, and probably buys emitters and uses their own stars.

I cannot easily remove the star or the aluminum heatsink it sits in. I suspect they're using thermal epoxy between star and sink, and between sink and body. FWIW, the bezel gets noticeably warmer after 60 seconds or less of usage. I haven't run it long term to see how warm it will get.

The light uses an TIR optic instead of a reflector. Mine has a small inclusion or indexing mark on the outside ring that extends into the optic.

There wasn't any thermal grease or epoxy between the sink and the body of the light I took apart. It's a tight press-fit, but my light came apart with a bit of persuasion and a pair of vice grips.

I had pictures, but I updated my website to a new domain name and lost the pictures.
