After much thought on the subject my solution
Found that if you sand the threads (a few passes with medium grit paper) then both the outside and inside of the cap she fits snugly on the SureFire L1 both 2nd and 3rd generation L1s and a pretty decent light defuser
I can not have been the first guy to dream this up ?
