It seems for the most part that advancements in LED technology have only really benefited the high end flashlight user. That's why this ad caught my eye.

Not only is the lowly LED breaking into new territory (aquariums) but they're going after the top dog of aquarium lighting, Metal Halides.
Due to cost, Metal Halides are usually only purchased by persons needing to satisfy the extreme light needs of reef aquariums.
I was surprised to find that this new Solaris LED aquarium light was actually able to exceed the output of Halides using the lowly Luxeon. Can this be?
Read the product review. (admittedly mostly French to me)

We live in exciting times.
Just think if they'd used Cree's.

I kept a Reef Tank for years, using compact flourescents for lighting. If these claims are true, this news is HUGE for people who raise hard corals.

Thanks for posting it................Frank

there's still debate over the UV issue but...
corals use actinic light and the only good thing about the Solaris is that it doesn't heat up the water like MH can and has hyped up dimmers.....

however this unit costs around 2000-3000 for a midsize setup (4-6 FT)
