It seems for the most part that advancements in LED technology have only really benefited the high end flashlight user. That's why this ad caught my eye.

Not only is the lowly LED breaking into new territory (aquariums) but they're going after the top dog of aquarium lighting, Metal Halides.
Due to cost, Metal Halides are usually only purchased by persons needing to satisfy the extreme light needs of reef aquariums.
I was surprised to find that this new Solaris LED aquarium light was actually able to exceed the output of Halides using the lowly Luxeon. Can this be?
