I've been looking for a LED-based book light. Someone mentioned the ultralife, but it's too expensive at $30. I already have a USB flylight for my laptop. I had an extra USB port that plugs into headers on a motherboard (availavle for $3 at cyberguys: link). A few snips and I had a 3-cell AAA battery holder hooked up. Now I can just slap the flylight in and go. The flylight has shrinkwrap tubing around the head because the lens on it leaks a lot of light out perpendicular to the direction you point it. Now I just need to run out to radio shack and get a switch and a project box and solder it together. I'm got some kind of curtain hanger which looks like it will make a good clip to keep it attached to a book.
