Hi everyone,

I have a stock Maglite 2C & 2D host. I want to make this into an Aspherical beast. And I want to make it as cheap as possible.

Is this what I need to buy?

Maglite 2D or 2C = $18
Terralux TLE-6EXB = $25
52mm aspheric lens = $8 (pending)
(2)3AA>1D adapters =$6

I'd like to run Li-ion
(2)18650 = $10

No need for aluminum reflector?

Can you give me some other battery options with these hosts? Other drop-ins? Runtimes? mods, etc.

Sorry I do not want to buy the malkoff drop in, i simply cannot afford it.

I would just leave the drop-in by itself. Asperic lense don't work as well with soul emitters as they do cree. They do work, but not to the extent of what a cree can do. 2 D batteries will power your light for quite a long time; longer then AA batteries in a adapter currently can do. It'll also means that you'll just have 2 cheap batteries to deal with.

If you get the TLE-6EXB (designed for 2 or 3 1.2-1.5v cells - 2.4-4.5v) you won't be able to use it with 2 18650s (7.2v) :poof:

You could however get a TLE-6EX (no B), and use 2 x series 3AA-D OR 2 x 18650s.

The TLE-6EX(B) is an easy/bright LED upgrade.

Other options are incand. upgrades for much more power.

As beefy6969 said, the common Mag incan. upgrades are the ROP and Mag85 and the 5761. These all require other upgrades (besides the lamp) - reflector, lens, switch etc.
There are however a few 'easier' ones too, which only require bulb swaps and 2 x series 3AA-D adapters:

To give an idea of output (rough 'homemade' numbers):

Original Mag 2D - 20-30 lumens
MagLED 2D - 50 lumens

with 6AAs:
TLE-6EX - 100 lumens
Mag 5 cell bulb - 120 lumens
Magnum star 5 cell bulb - 180 lumens
ROP LO - 300 lumens
GH24 bulb - 300 lumens

+ new reflector & lens & better cell adapter:
ROP HO - 600+ lumens

+ bi pin adapter/switch
5761 - 800+ lumens
