I simply used two elastic bands and two pliers. it was not necessary to heat the head.
Do not be intimidated by the opening of an L0D/L0P/L0P-SE. I have done a lot of them, and they all open with heat.
Darksky's method with the wood is downright clever, and could be done without any special tools. That is certainly worth a shot.
