Hey Guys!

First post here, I've been reading most of the weekend and have really enjoyed it here. It helped once I figured out what EDC stood for, =). Can you guys recommend me a good inexpensive ebay LED light to keep in my vehicle? I would prefer 2 to 4 C or D cell.

:welcome: I don't have a lot experience with multiple D cell lights but from what I have read the Mag LED's are reasonable and availble in stores. If you have some old 2D lights around you could buy an LED replacement bulb which will give a bit more light with a lot more runtime. I don't have much experience with buying lights on ebay but there are many good online sources CPF'ers use for all kinds of lights. Here are a couple of links for the 2D bulbs:

One of the new 2-4D LED maglites would make a good vehicle light. The only thing I'd worry about is how the batteries would hold up to being kept in the vehicle.

welcome CG, ain't been here long myself. i've been reading up a storm for two weeks and i STILL know less than nuthin'. but i'll take a shot at your question. i've also been looking at decent quality lights running C's or D's, somekind of hurricane/SHTF light with tons of run time. i'm considering the 3C streamlight. it uses 3 C's with a claimed lumen output around 40 ( non-regulated, i'm sure) and a run time of around 350+ hours. from what i've read streamlight has a great rep, and this is very reasonably priced. assuming it works,the following link is for batteryjunction, also well spoken of here ( i've got a surefire coming in the mail from them now).

also, just a little while ago i read some old threads about keeping lights/batteries in cars, and from what i gathered, unless it gets REAL hot or cold, they're pretty resilient, just change them (batteries) every 6-12 months, if it's hot,don't keep them on the dash,and cracking the windows 1/2 inch can reduce heat buildup by 25% . stuff like that. damn,ain't this an interesting forum ?:thumbsup:

Bottom line is, change alkalines at the end of every summer, and it matters greatly if your car experiences either extreme heat, or extreme cold. The electrolyte in alkalines will freeze in very cold weather, and heat will make them self discharge and/or leak. Lithium primaries are better suited to both extreme heat and extreme cold, from -60F to +140F. The floorboard can be as much as 10+ degrees cooler than laying a flashlight on the seat, and 20+ degrees cooler than laying it on the dash.
