I do not think there is much difference between the 1AA lights. They all use boost circuits putting 300 to 350 mA to the LED. The reflectors are almost the same size so there is not that much difference in throw either. The LEDs are no more than 25% apart. (80 to 100 lumens, not the 30 to 80 lumen jump from luxeon to Cree XRE) Remember you only get 2/3 of the emitter light out the front.

Have you checked out Selfbuilt's 1AA comparison threads?

I picked up the one and five mode MTE Seouls cuz of the great reviews. The Rebel versions don't seem to be as well liked around here so I have not purchased them. The Seouls are awesome little lights.

yea i read sefbuilts review AFTER i bought the light and brought it home.
i guess the light is not that god aweful. i would still rather walk with it on hi than an old school 2d light or even stock 3d mag.

according to his review the rebel mte 5 mode is right behind the cree anyways. are the one mode flashlights brighter than the five mode?

I have the 80-bin MTE Rebel in 5-mode and 1-mode, and the 5-mode on high is identical to the 1-mode, just as you would hope.

Will never buy a 5-mode again - I hate the silly thing.

Will buy the 100-bin single mode as soon as it is released.

If mine and other MTE SSC P4 lights are to go by what the quality is of these, try shorting the negative side of the battery directly on to the end of the body tube bypassing the switch altogether. You may gain quite a noticeable amount in brightness. I certainly did with mine single stage MTE SSC and many others did too. (I'm sure you know about the "TURBO" mode thread) It seems the tail switch has a lot more resistence than preferred.

The ones which caught my eye so far for single stage are:

Some expected to be bright ones that are multi-mode and below $25 are:

Most new drivers at DX/KD seems to be all multi-mode nowadays though.

I have the 5 mode rebel 100 and I like it mostly. I'll prob give it out as a christmas present this year and get a 1 mode though. The 5 modes are annoying. Turn it on and off too fast and you're in a different mode.
