i'm in the dark when it comes to flashlights:laughing:

I need a good flashlight that can stand up to ALOT of abuse and use! I heard maglites are good but are too expensive i would like to keep it under $40 I need it for spot lighting racoons and to flood an area at night so my puppy won't be scared when she goes for a pee in the dark.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Ollie

you can get a minimag and a terralux led upgrade kit, that will put you up around a 100 lumens and stay in your price range.

Thanks,
I used to have a spot light but I forgot it at cam but I would charge and only get about 15 mins of continous usage. Thats also a key factor I want to have a life span well over 15 mins!

Thanks,
Ollie

In the US, a MagLED is MSRP at around $30 for the 2D model, and would provide sufficient throw what what you need. What country are you in?

I'm not sure about how much abuse this will take but the WF-600 is one of the best thrower for your price range(about 15000 Lux, maglite 4D is about 9000-10000 Lux, about 100 lumens, the maglite is about 60-70 lumen). With some 18650 3.7v rechargeable batteries and charger the total is about $40.

How much abuse will this light be seeing?

I will be using it almost everynight, and i'll be taking it on camping trips.

How long is the life span on this light?

I just know that maglites are really good? how far will a 4d led maglite shine? I know the hours of life are that of over 100,000?

Thanks,
Ollie

The WF-600 would have more throw, lumens and smaller size then the MagLED but runtime will also be shorter(runtime on high is about 2.5 to 3 hours to 75% output on a 18650 battery). According to this review, it also has better quality.

The slightly dimmer 3W Cree projection had 14000 Lux throw with 2 batteries and 10800 lux with a 18650 battery (comparison) and about 100 lumens out the front. It should throw 100 yard easily. The MagLED 3D(best performing, ) has around 7500 Lux throw and 60-65 lumen out put at the start, down to almost 50% in 20 minutes but runs for 22 hours(bigger batteries = more power = more runtime).

The WF-600 uses the same circuit and should also throw a bit further due to the slightly more efficient LED. The LED should at least last 5,000 hours for any noticeable dimming to show.

The high power LEDs are much more resilient then the 5mm LEDs you have probably seen. Most 5mm LEDs die within 10,000 due to overdriving but I've heard most high power LEDs are only down to 70% after 100,000 hours.

To most of the public, Maglites are the top of the line but here the stock Maglite or MagLED is only average quality when compared to many of the lights available.

One advice! Put the price now to get a good light and you won't regret it!

A nice choice would be the Fenix L2T V2 offered here:
https://www.fenix-store.com/product...d=335&osCsid=c2b2443b45ad0cb83b751836171dd135
45$ with CPF8 coupon code, free shipping to Canada. You can trust Fenix Store, many prople bought there more than once, including me!

You'll get a runtime of 3h on high and around 21h on low on 2AA NiMH. Cut runtime by half if you run it on alkaline. You will get a nice throw and also a lot of flood for close range work and this light will be much brighter than any Maglite! ;)

Where are you in Canada?

I does not come with a battery. You have to buy those separately but the 18650 batteries are rechargeable so it is cheaper in the end. The 15000 Lux figure is with 2 CR123 batteries, with a 18650 battery it is around 11000 Lux but with longer runtime. With 2 RCR123 batteries it would throw a bit further then with 1 18650 battery but runtime will also be much shorter.

OK, I know I am a "looser" for suggesting a non cree/123a light, but for $50 you can get a Streamlight SurvivorLED that runs on simple AA alkalines or nimh rechargables. It throws better than my old Streamlight TL-3 running on 3x123a batts and kills my lumapower M3 cree light for throw, even when the m3 is on lithium batteries and using the turbohead and smooth reflector. It is rated to survive a 30' drop test and is primarely made for firemen. It is not so bright that you will **** off your nieighbors, and best of all, after owning four of them, none have had the ugly purple tint so common with cree lights.

If I could only own 1 light, (having owned $1600 in SF lights and over $400 in cree/rebel lights) it would be the humble SurvivorLED.
