Here is my latest home made mod:
requirements: an old 3D Maglite, a Q5 cree, a 5 mode (3x 7135) 1000 mAh driver ($3-4 @ DX or Kai) 2mm copper plate/saw, glue, solder, dremel and stuff /some wire and a steady hand.
result: a very bright mag with a very tight hotspot (almost like with an aspheric lens). the multimode gives you a choice between high/mid/low/strobe/sos. I is nice to use the strobe effectively on someone who is more than 30 meters away (because of the tight beam)
