Can someone give me some explanation on how the NovaTac battery detect works? I use primaries so do I need to do it? I just need a better understanding on how it works and when it should be done. I'm a bit confused with how the manual explains it.

you only need to do a battery detect if you go from primary to rechargeable battery's what it does is tell your light witch one you are using. that way it will protect your flashlight from over draining your rechargeable battery if you just use primary battery's you will never have to do a detect.

Ok I'm not 100% sure but i know it comes set from the factory to run on primary's if you haven't done a reset you should be ok. if a reset was done to go to rechargeable then you go back to primary's you will not have your high settings. if you are set up for primary and go to rechargeable without a reset it will drain your rechargeable all the way down which is not good. i do not believe there is a signal to tell which setting its on.
