sorry if this is a noob question but the diodes in the Laser pointers are just ordinary LEDs right?

so how did they do this http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.1997
it can cut...

so can i get the smallest angle lens and tube reflectors to make my own?

nope not LEDs; laser diodes are made from similar materials as LEDs but are structured differently. also the green lasers like the one in your link is actually called a DPSS (diode pumped solid state) with uses an infrared laser, 808nm to "pump" a ND:YVO4 crystal up to 1064nm then a second crystal, a KTP, drops it down to the 532mn green you see comming out of the laser. crazy stuff hu?

wow...thats pretty crazy...

i thought that if i get thos 3w green emitters and use a 1 degree lens along with a reverse reflector i can make a green laser...
