I'd like to get my feet wet in modding and would like some advice on a first project. I have a couple of ideas in mind.

I really like the looks of this light and it would be my first choice if it's not too difficult:

Anyone with experience in modding it?

I've read that this next one is a very easy flashlight to mod, so if my first choice is not so good, I'll go with this one.

For both lights, which replacement LED? There are several stars in the $5-7 range on DX. I'd spring a little extra for the Q5 star if it's worth it and it's appropriate for my hosts. I prefer to use rechargeables.

Anything else I need to know? Any recommended tools or supplies? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

:thanks:

I "Creed" my Elly today. On the left is the original Elly on the right, Cree Q2 Elly. (2sec f5.6)

Thanks for the suggestion, Gunner12!

nice mod.... just curious though, how much would a led flashlight that is comparable to your modification one cost?

Uh....$2 or $3 less. :sick2:

But I did it for the experience. It was fun, I learned a little and I now have a nice loaner light for work.

The Romisen MXDL RC-G2 looks nice. I don't know as I've seen other forward clickies on DX. Do you have one?

Get the Dx lights,

http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.1892

http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.1890

you can see my review on the second link ^^

they use star connection boards, the most widely available there.

Also, take not, most of the ultra fires use smaller connection boards, so watch out if youre looking to mod those.

Also, go look into the circuit boards there, and read up about driving current and all that. These are things i wish someone told me when i started (about last month)

Also, does anyone know if deal has foward clickies? as in, the switch itself? i cant find any...

Thanks for the links, Crenshaw. Looks like a AA version of a 6P. Pretty cool.

I'm getting the parts to do a couple of Mag mods now, so those will have to wait.

Haven't seen any momentary switches on DX. Good luck!
