Batteries - rechargeable?

Ok, I just ordered an Olight T20 Cree W5 and I am trying to decide what batteries to order. I know it takes CR123A batteries, but I think it can take rechargeable ones also. Is this right? If so, would it be better to go with the rechargeables, and which ones? Are there any drawbacks to them? Thanks.

I was hoping someone who has one of these lights would answer your question, but so far no-one has done so.

There are rechargeable cells that would fit, but whether they would be compatible, or would damage the light, is another matter. Many people just put rechargeables in their lights without bothering to find out first whether or not this is a good idea.

Li-Ion rechargeable cells are 4.2V when fully charged, falling almost linearly to 3.5V when empty. 2x R123 Li-Ions (the same size as 2x CR123A 3V primaries) would therefore give you 8.4V fully charged – a lot more than 6V. Whether or not your particular light can handle 8.4V without being damaged, I do not know.

Another possibility might be for you to use a single 17670 or 18650 Li-Ion cell. These cells are the same length as 2x CR123As (the 18650 is 1 mm fatter than the 17670) so you would be replacing 6V with 4.2V. Again, without knowing the circuitry of your light, I don't know whether this would be a viable option.

So until you know what circuitry your light has, or the dealer tells you it is OK to use Li-Ions with it, you should stick to CR123A primaries. I hope someone who knows this light will reply with more definitive information.

Welcome to CPF!

It seems that as in other lights the problem of Olight T20 is more in the body's inner diameter than in the circuit's capability to withstand the higher voltage.

From the manufacturer's website: http://www.olightworld.com/proi/cn/product_detail.asp?productid=414

3. Battery: Use 2 x CR123A batteries or 2x4.2v rechargeable batteries;
4. Working Voltage:range from 3v-8.4V

More info here:

and additionally if you go to the Google Search box on top of the page and type "Olight RCR123" you get a few other results.

BTW :welcome:

I don't think the light on the website is the same one I ordered. The one I ordered is supposed to have 205 lumens on high and the one on the website is listed at 160. Would batteries work the same in both models? Thanks.
