How long will it be before a Fenix P2D or SFL1 puts out 400+ lumens?

Remembering that a year ago...50-60 lumens out of a 1 cell light was incredible, how long will it be until a 3" long flashlight will put out 400+ lumens?

My guess...18 months. What do you all think?

On 1x123 with today's leds this would be doable but not all that practical. Basically you'd use one of those 3x Rebel clusters at around 5 watts, giving you 20 minutes or so of runtime with 300+ lumens out the front. Surefire has made incans for years that drain the cells that fast. With 2x123 it would be a fairly sane setup. In both cases you'd want the light to have careful thermal monitoring and automatic protection like the HDS lights have traditionally had. Fenix has never done this as far as I know.

So does that mean we'll end up with square hotspots instead of round?
