My cheapo multi-5mm-LED headlamp isn't cutting it any more, so I'm thinking of ordering one capable of more serious output.

The two options are this one, which uses a U-bin SSC, and this one, which is pretty much the same thing only with a Cree.

I don't know which one I should choose, so I'm looking for opinions from people who own one (or ideally both). The $2 price increase for the Seoul isn't really a problem.

Also: I hate AAAs, so I'd like to hack the carrier to accept a single 18500 LiIon cell. Is there any resistance or driving circuitry inbetween the cell and the emitter? I imagine there's something for the low modes, but I'm not sure on high. Might be direct driven in that mode, and I don't want to hurt the LED with the higher current of a fully charged LiIon.

Thanks.

Edit: no matter, it seems the reflector is meant for Seoul/Luxeon type emitters and gives an irregular beam with the Cree. I should learn to read the owner reviews before asking here. *sigh* So SSC it is.
What I still need to know is if there's resistance in the circuit.
