My PC is thanking CPF

My PC kept rebooting itself. Being a novice, I straight away blame Windows. But after several time reformatting it with XP / Vista, it's still happening.

I gathered courage to open the case, and finally unhooked the heatsink...

It must have been a cheap thermal goo; it turned into powder :thumbsdow

The only reason I got Arctic Silver was for modding; but now I found another use.

I learn a lot from this wonderful forum. Thank you very much.

Great catch, Kurni. Hopefully the CPU wasn't damaged from the heat. I had one CPU that had one or more of it's internal bonding wires loosen up from heat caused by a failed fan, and the symptom was that the machine would boot, crash and reboot infinitely, with each successive cycle becoming increasingly shorter as the chip warmed up. I had to replace the CPU after replacing the fan.

Funny thing is Arctic Silver is actually ment for CPU heatsinks, not flashlights. :D

Lately I have used silicone grease to fix my kitchen sink faucet and make my computer mouse feet slicker!
