I'm a electronics/flashlight modding noob, but I still wanted to mod my maglite 2D.
Since I live in Sweden, I don't have access to the parts required for a ROP or anything really advanced (don't wanna pay customs), so I smashed a (burnt out) "white-star" bulb and soldered a luxeon star to the "wires" inside the bulb. :p

Some info:

Power source: 2 CR123A batteries

Driver: A LMT317T regulates current to 320-330 mA. (Probably inefficient)

Luxeon info:

Luxeon Star 1.2 W White
45 Lumen
140*
3.42V

The flashlight works fine and it's much brighter than the original, so I'm happy :). I'll post some pics later, because the luxeon is in a slightly tilted position right now...:D:D

Anyway, the current is fine, but the voltage is ~5.5V without a luxeon in it, which is 5.5-3.42= 2.08V too much.

So I need a (2.08/0.35)=~5.94 ohm resistor to burn away the excess voltage, right?

I wasn't really serious about this mod, but it beats the original 2D IMO. :D

Got any tips on stores in the EU where I can buy LEDs/batteries/lenses?

Great work!! :twothumbs

I also live in Sweden, and you don´t have to worry too much about customs when buying the parts for a ROP or other hotwires.

ROP-bulb - Lighthound (No customsfee)
Reflector for D-Mag - KaiDomain or CPF Marketplace (No customsfee)
Flashlight - Flashlightking.com (No customsfee)
Batteryholder - FiveMega (No customsfee)
Boro lens - Flashlightlens.com (No customsfee)

Most of these parts go under the taxable limit for Sweden.
Good luck!!
