Hiya,

Was bored this Friday afternoon... So I stuck my new ARC-P (without LED head) in the Scanning Electron Microscope in the lab.

I wonder how the knurling compares to a Surefire? Will test sometime....

Interesting the way the letters are formed, anyone know how they do that?

Anyway, just thought I'd post...

Very cool!

I guess surefires knurling would look rather raw, unfinished in comparison.

Great pictures, thanks for posting  It would be interesting to see similar shots of SureFire/HDS/NovaTac etc knurling to compare.

Regards,
Tempest

:kewlpics:

That's laser engraving, AFAIK.

Yup, that I believe is correct. What's cool is that you can see the individual "plot points" that the laser burns, which at our vision's magnification looks like a solid line.

Awesome shots! Wish I had one of those at my disposal!

I'd love to send you my old arc aaa to scan. I've carried it on my keys every day for probably 4 years, and it would be cool to see how much more shallow the peaks and valleys of the knurl are now.

Wow awesome that you have access to the scope! You can see the crystalline structure of the anodize! More!! I wonder if you can put like an old luxeon emitter or something in there? Might start glowing though? haha

Dude,

You were so bored you stuck your Arc in a Scanning Electron Microscope.

I think I had to re-read that three times before it clicked.

Still, great pics. ;D

I expect SureFire's knurling would look obviously more angular and aggressive. I believe it is manufactured in a different way in order to afford better grip.
Even with a mark 1 eyeball it is possible to tell the difference - the edges of the 'diamonds' are raised...

Great images - I hope you're able to share images of SureFire knurling with us soon!

Al :)
