Hi,
I've just been replacing the LEDs in my Ktronic CNC light
(see http://candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?t=143990)

I've swapped my original two Seoul stars with IMS20 reflectors and 1 Cree Q2 emitter with Dom-modified IMS20 reflector for 3 Cree R2 emitters and new Fraen Cree 19mm reflectors*.

See (http://cpfmarketplace.com/mp/showthread.php?t=166210&page=2)
and (http://www.cutter.com.au/proddetail.php?prod=cut738)

However I'm worried that the heatsinks are now screwed in far to far as these reflectors are only 13/14mm deep. This leaves only a few threads of the copper heatsink in contact with the aluminium body.

I thought of gaining 1.4mm by buying some 2.4mm thick glass lenses.

I also think McR-19-XR reflectors (20mm long) would fit but they are comparatively pricey.

Anyone used other brands of Cree reflectors ??????

Ktronic did you shorten the unit that you used with optics ?

Cheers,
Leo

Hi Leow
The only beam i like off the Cree is with some 10.4deg Carclo optics -but they are only 10mm long - i think i may have made some longer sinks. Also using stars.

Get stars would be your best bet -flip the sink to the blank side.Easier upgrade for the future as well.
The glass wouldn't be a bad idea either -put even more of the sink back in the housing, though even with the small contact of a few threads, the thermal transfer is still very good.

I have cut a few down -but they were the very original ones without the screw sink -i wouldn't do it to a screwed sink one -cuts your future options right down.

The best bet for the nicest beam with the Cree apart from the Caclo 10.4 deg that will fit the piston would be the McR-19-XR.

I personally don't like reflectors for bike lights -unless there is one that won't have a hotspot -which i haven't found yet.
Well -the closest i've found is the McR -11 -XR :)

Cheers
Dom

Dom,
My temporary solution is to double up on the plastic lenses.
Unfortunately I seem to have crushed 1 of the 3 Cree R2s so it looks like I'm going back to a mixed Cree/Seoul setup.

I was trying to avoid using stars to improve the thermal path (1 less junction).

Cheers,
Leo

Oops!
Didn't get it in the pocket properly -or did it jump out when tightening?
Should have made that pocket a bit deeper eh?

Cheers
