Well,

This is a warning to anyone who is thinking of modifying their WE Sniper in order to accept some of the newer led P60 *style* drop-ins.

[I should make it clear that I'm not slating Dereelight here. I'm sure their products are fine. It just so happens that it was one of their modules that I tried to fit.]

The story continues from here: https://www.candlepowerforums.com/threads/179135

Where I requested info on an 18650 host that would accept a P60 drop-in, to save me having to buy a new light every time a new LED appears. Idea was to just change the drop-in instead. Hmmm.

The WE 6AX seemed to fit the bill. Small, cheap, comes with a clicky and accepts a lamp assy that 'looks' (well, looked to me anyway) like a P60.

So I got the P60 drop in from Dereelight and the thing would not fit. The problem is that the WE lamps have no large outer spring like the SF P60, and the battery tube comes up all the way to meet the lamp assy to compensate for this:

Many of the newer LED drop-ins assume that the space occupied by the outer spring will still be available, and use this space to house the converter.

This obviously does not work in a WE light because, the battery tube occupies that space.

So, I thought I'd get the drill out and bore out the brass battery tube sleeve on the inside of the flashlight from the front, so the LED drop-in would fit.

The boring went better than expected actually, I got the new module to fit:

But an 18650 will still not fit. The second problem is that the WE lamp assy is shorter overall too (noticed this after crushing one of AW's finest..).

Now the brass sleeve has been cut away, it wont work with the stock lamp either.

I know WE make Cree drop-ins, but they all use buck converters, which means that your light spends very little time in regulation. The one from Dereelight is a buck \ boost, so it should cope very well with a single LiIon.

That was the theory anyway.
