Maybe your choice is between L1D and P2D. Both P1D and P2D use 123 batteries.
In any case I have all three and P2D would be my choice because of the good ratio between output and size and the U.I. that is easier to use than the one of P1D.

Yes, the higher output is worth it, in my opinion.
A 16-pack of CR123s from fenix-store is $32 and will last you for years, literally, unless you use the light for hours every single day.
If you do use the light every single day, then maybe a P3D with rechargeable Li-Ion 123s is a better way to go... or another light, such as the ones that use 18650s.
