With the explosion of LED lights coming to market in the last year,
what is your vote for the Best Light of '07 ....

Also, what was the worst,...the biggest 'fizz'.

Best:
-Spy005 SSC P4 edition

Worst:
- The Liteflux LF2 was a major disapointment for me when it stopped working correctly. While it worked it was great.

I would easily vote my Hyperion CE-R as the best bang for the buck of 2007. I love this light.

(The glow ring around the bezel is 5min epoxy & ultra blue glow powder. PITA to get on there evenly, but worth the effort)

Edit: I didn't have any "fizzers" this year, so I can only vote for the one I like the most.

McGizmo Ti Mule, Best

(Nautilus and Spy005 P4, close 2nd)

Lumapower Avenger, worst purchase for me, as it doesn't accept all batteries, out of the box.

Re: * Best and worst lights of 2007

I don't know about best overall, by my best '07 light is I believe my Surefire 6PL.

Close second would be DX Sku 7999 Romisen RC-F4 which BASHES the 6PL and most other LED lights I own pretty handily!

Worst flop I got in '07 would be a 14 5MM 3AAA light I got that now has only 9 LEDs working. The clickie still works positively and the threads are good. It just was overdriven something awfull, (or maybe the Vf of the LEDs was low).

Boy I'm going to get some slack for this but my worst/best light this year was/is my novatac120p.The first one i got was the worst color anodize i have ever seen and the thing flickered on almost every level. Sent it back very disappointed and almost wanted my money back. But Jim set me up with a new one that is now perfect in every way. Its now one of my favorite lights.

Re: * Best and worst lights of 2007

Here are my selections in order:
  1. Surefire Titan
  2. Nautilus
  3. Novatac 120P
Here is my list of "best of 2007" lights that probably shouldn't go on the list because they were upgraded in 2007 and not released in 2007:
  1. McGizmo Ti PD-S
  2. Arc AAAP w/DS LED
Here is the list of lights that I wish that came out in 2007 that I wished I had but... I have not:
  1. Orb lights like the Wee or the Titanium Raw (the small one)
  2. ARC mania's Extreme Micro
  3. MJP Extreme III
I am, of course accepting donations of the lights listed above that I have not:devil::nana:

I do not fully agree. In many countries (mine included) Leds are still considered marginal products. In my country, if I go to a store looking for a light, 80% of the offered products are still using incandescent bulbs. Even in some "specialised" stores, they still consider that an incandescent mag is the best light in the world.

I am a led fanatic, and I only use led based flashlights. Even if I have ocassion to do a gift, I choose a good led light (Fenix L2T.v2 was my last gift to my father) just to demonstrate what these lights are capable of.

I am not sure if the general user is conscient of the possibilities of high quality leds.

Whether or not LED flashlights are readily available at brick & mortar stores doesn't change the fact that the number of light manufacturers, variety of lights and availability of high power led lights at affordable prices has increased dramatically in the past year.

I bouht some really nic elights this year, but in order of preference they are;

1) L1 Cree
2) Amonodotech N30
3) Photon Proton Pro

The worst? Nothing really stands out as horrible. The most disappointing is the Lumapower Avenger. Lots of potential, but tries to be too many things.

Oh I forgot the Zebralight H50.

Groundbreaking headlamp: Cree, pure flood, 1AA. Great spread on the 3 levels and no silly levels. It doesn't do every thing but for what it does do its the best.

Re: * Best and worst lights of 2007

I've bought a lot of very pleasing lights this year, but they all do different tasks so it's hard to select a true best.

Headlight- Zebralight H50 Q5
EDC- Olight T10
Handheld- Olight T20 Q5
Penlight- Streamlight MicroStream
Tactical- Lego parts and a drop-in for a Surefire 3P body
Survival- Safelight Superbright
Minimalist- Pak-lite Basic
Simple- Lumapower LM31
Handy- Pentagonlight MOLLE
Traditional- Lumapower M1-R

I think it is great that there's such a wide selection of P60 LED drop-ins now available. That's what seems to have really "exploded" this year.

Only one that truly wasn't good out of the box, an X1 5mm green. It has terrible artifacts so I had to diffuse it to make it useful. But that wasn't new by any means.
The Tiablo A1 was only a disappointment due to the hype of brightness, in reality it's a nice 1xAAA simple light.

I don't know if it counts because it's a mod but my favorite light is my MillerMods Arc AAA two level Cree.
Worst light of the year? There are so many contenders I aint' even gonna go there.

"My" favorite light for 2007 would be:

- Nightcore DI.

One I do not have but would probably vote for based on what I like in a light is:

- Proton Pro.

Strong runner up would be the LiteFlux-3

I really have not had any bad lights.

Re: * Best and worst lights of 2007

Best-

Liteflux LF2 -- Regulation and low battery protection w/ 10440s. High PWM frequency (no flicker). User programmable two-stage interface. LOW low state. Voltmeter function (useful for checking battery state-of-charge). Amazing feature set for a keychain light.

Worst-

Jetbeam C-LE (DX version) -- Nice anodizing/feel, that's about it. Irritating, battery rattling, poor condction through threads, impossible to use interface (requires quicker than 1/2 second switching cylce) bluest Cree emitter I've ever seen, extremely inefficient driver. Runs very hot.
