HI All,
I have seen single Cree drop ins that have a rated output of 270 lumens. Is this possible? What would the maximum output of this LED be? Could it be a marketing ploy?
Thanks.

It will go over 300 and probably over 400 if you drive it hard enough. Though I wouldn't force it over 300 lumen(About a 50% overdrive). 270 lumen is around 1.2 amp drive which is 20% over the recommended max.

If you had enough cooling the Q5 can theoretically hit 1000 lumen(same with a 5mm LED).

In theory, if you were able to cool the LED fast enough, the die will never get to the point of self destruction so you can run huge currents through the LED without worrying. But it is not practical/possible in real life.
