Saw this MX Power LED torch in a shop that other day (same place where I bought my 1AA MX Power) that actually can use either 2xAA's or 1x CR123A battery. Basically when the torch is slightly extended it uses 2xAA's and when you disassemble the middle portion of the torch which allows it to be smaller, than you just use 1xCR123A camera type battery.

The beam is nice and bright and quite powerful with a nice focus, I'm sure there are other torches around exactly like this one but just branded differently. It looks quite similar to a Fenix L2T, as if you look at an L2T its sort of broken up into 3 segments, top, middle and end.

It's called a LEGO light, and many lights are capable of it.

The Fenix L2D, L1D, and P2D for example all use the same head and tail, and just use different bodies.

The Fenix L1T and L2T also use the same head.

Many Ultrafire's are capable of doing the same.

Ok so can the fenixes do this as well ?

Um, yeah...

The Fenix L2D, L1D, and P2D for example all use the same head and tail, and just use different bodies.

The Fenix L1T and L2T also use the same head.

and also whats the purpose of this function ?

Simple. To give you a multitude of choices of preferred cells, and sometimes to give you the choice between highly compact size, brightness, or runtime

Assume if I remove the centre portion after the convertion and this means eliminate both the AA batts and just use 1xCR123 battery, will this than mean I will loose a slight bit of my brigthness from the LED or will the brighness/output of the LED still stay the same ?

For the Fenix lights, only the L1D, L2D and P2D can do that with stock parts(1 AA, 2 AA and CR123 swap). You will have to buy a new body. The L1D body is 1 AA only, the L2D body is 2 AA only, the P2D body is CR123 only. The bodies are all one piece(Like a tube).

Loosing output will depend on the driver.

The L2D and P2D configurations will put out the same amount of light, but runtimes will be better for the L2D.

The easiest thing to do is simply go to the website and compare the brightness/runtimes for each setup.

L2D Q5
* General Mode: 12 lumens (55hrs) -> 53 lumens (10.5hrs) -> 107 lumens (4hrs) -> SOS
* Turbo Mode: 180 lumens (2.4hrs) -> Strobe

L1D Q5
* General Mode: 12 lumens (25hrs) -> 53 lumens (5hrs) -> 107 lumens (2hrs) -> SOS
* Turbo Mode: 120 lumens (1.5hrs) -> Strobe

P2D Q5
* General Mode: 12 lumens (30hrs) -> 55 lumens (5.5hrs) -> 107 lumens (2hrs) -> SOS
* Turbo Mode: 180 lumens (1hrs) -> Strobe

The L1Tv2.0 and L2Tv2.0 are also interchangeable, but are also discontinued.
