In the realm of +/- 140mm factory or modded 1 X 18650 is there a decided champ?

Over the past two weeks I've spent 70+ hours reading forums, researching manufacturer and modders websites. I can't stop, sometimes I get out of bed at
2am just to check cpf for another idea that pops into my head. My poor wife must think I've either found an internet girlfriend or have become addicted to porn and some how pull up flashlight forums every time she walks in the room.

So... being 70 hours past a newbie, here goes. A lot of people have a need for an edc that packs some throw. 5.5" +/- is right on the cusp of being too big for a pocket but I think the extra power is worth cramming it in there, especially if you have work pants or shorts with cargo pockets.

A +/- 45mm bezel such as the DBS, Spear and a Malkoff modded Surefire is just too big to carry for 10 hours a day. Before you say it... there are no circumstances where I will wear a holstered flashlight with in city limits, at least not without a badge and a glock. For outside city limits and backyard shenanigans I'll be looking at the FoxFury Tac-Fire Cree or the MicroFire Warrior III.

In no particular order... here are the lights I've found to be contending for the King of the plus size pocket throwers: (I know most of these lights have been seen on various reviews with beam shots, but most were with P4s and Q2s)

Special Edition LumaHunter M1 Tactical Q5- 205 Lumens

Lumencraft Gat Light GatLight V3 Ti SSC - 240 Lumens

Dereelight CL1H DI Q5 - 250 Lumens

Fenix T1 Tactical Q5 - 225 Lumens

Special Edition OLIGHT T20 Q5 - 205 Lumens

Wolf Eyes Fox I Tactical Q5 - 260 Lumens

There they are, all lumen counts are manufacturer stated (except for the CL1H which is quoted from Steve L on 12-25-07 http://www.cpfmarketplace.com/mp/showthread.php?p=2104113), all other links are available as well. Please post other lights you feel fit into this category that I missed.

I can't wait to see how cpf'ers narrow down this group.

Well, if you like to mod, you could probably get DBS beating performance with the right lens and a modded P60 Cree module(modded so the LED is at the right focus height).

I think the best throwers out of those are the CL1H or the M1.

Well, your in too deep to turn back, so

:welcome:

Enjoy your stay!

Kudos on the well constructed question derived from heavy research.

I don't know which of those would measure the highest lux.

A titanium Gat would so cool.

Sidenote: Malkoff does make a P60 Q5 for Surefires 5' in length like the 6P, C2, Z2 etc. It won't win the top honor for lux but it's a terrific unit.

Sorry I couldn't answer your question. Again, outstanding formulation.

All the lights you picked are good quality,
the one that will give you the best long term investment is the Dereelight CL1H.

Upgrades are simple, and for about $30, its like getting a whole new light.

( WE Fox 1 also)

For the last few days it's been looking like the CL1H is going to be the next shiny object I add to my collection of unnecessary man toys. Does anyone know if the CL1H really has 250 lumens at the emitter? The quote I mentioned above was the only info I could find and Alan hasn't got to that question in the manufacturer's section.

I would sure love to see lux readings and beam shots, especially the CL1H vs Fox I.

Go to lightreviews.info and click on the compare tab at the top of the screen. I believe you can compare both lights there.

Jalibass,

you should get all the advice you need here. I am glad you posted this question as I have just gone through the same decisions and settled on the CL1H as you know from your question in the CPF Manufacturer's corner. However, I am very interested to see what other members may come up with. And don't worry, my sinister minister for finance went from being suspicious of me to now just thinking I am a sad little nerd. I think she would rather I was looking at porn anyway....it's a whole lot cheaper :welcome:

It's funny you should say that, my budgeting bride looked over my shoulder last night, asked what cpf stood for, called me a dork and told me to come to bed. I didn't give in though... I finished reading that paragraph and theennnn went to bed.

Did you look at the comparison between the CL1H Q5 and the Fox I Q5? I didn't expect the Fox to be that much brighter. It also seemed the CL1H was a much lower Kelvin. I'm getting closer, definitely between those two now.... I'm pretty much going to have both aren't I?

Mev added a note to CL1H : http://www.light-reviews.com/dereelight_cl1h/review_2sd.html

[Note: Its been brought to my attention that my review sample may be faulty since the output numbers do not coincide with the manufacturer's specifications. Please consider this when making decision based on this review. Any additional information may be updated if new information becomes available.]

The new 3SD modules for my Dereelights are REAL bright on high.
If you get an extra SMO reflector ($ 3 or 4) bucks then you can increase your throw about 20%. With a quick switcheroo, you can have the best of both worlds... Smooth to OP.

The current pill outputs are 5% ~ 50% ~ 100% << super usable range.
* 100% =1.2A

p.s. by the way, try to get both lights, file it under 'for safety reasons'

Is a dork a geek?...

Some (most?) of these lights seem a little large to be called "pocket". I had the Dereelight and it certainly is for me. I'd say L1 is pocket sized.

I was thinking the same thing. Also, lumens counts aren't giving you the whole story. The reflector has alot to do with throw. Something like the C2-Q5 http://www.kaidomain.com/WEBUI/ProductDetail.aspx?TranID=3794 has a great reflector with a still pocketable length and diameter. The Regal WT1 is slightly longer and smaller in diameter. Both are big throwers. And you can use 18650's or cr123/rcr123's.

I would say either the Dereelight CL1H Q5 or the Regalight WT1 Q5. The WT1 has around 13,000 lux with the smooth reflector and is very pocketable for a two cell light.

I would think the Regalight WT1 Q5 v2 will be the champ here. It's the only "pocket light" I've seen mix it up with the big boys in throwing shootouts.

Regallight owns as far as a "pocketable" thrower goes...Unless you wanna pocket a DBS, Spear or A9...Of the ones u mentioned I'd say the WT1 wins.

We'll see when the A6 gets into peoples hands, but from looks point of view I don't find the A6 appealing at all.

just my 02.

thats almost a full time job. if you can afford to devote that much time to researching it, I would hope you can afford just to buy all of the lights you are researching. Seriously. And then, you can do some reviews and put beamshots for others.

Regalight WT1 Q5

I have one and its a thrower....esp with the smooth reflector...(but it does have a lot of artifacts...I use the OP reflector) and it still throws well.

I wasn't into throwing lights, but I take this on my night time runs sometimes and when its pitch black...the beam looks so awesome, going across the golf course!

I suggest the Wolf Eyes D2AX Q5, the Deree CL1-H Q5... among lots of other fine lights you've listed.

Don't feel bad... my wife just shrugs her shoulders, gives me a goofy look and says, "You gotta quit doing this!" And I say... "What???" :p
