Noob here, looking for help from the experts. I posted this to the custom flashlights forum and didn't get any replies. So I'll try again here:twothumbs. mods please free to relocate this thread if it does not belong.

Wanting to get into the hobby of torch modding:twothumbs.

Is this a good mod host? Looks like it comes apart easily, glass lens, smooth reflector are a plus for me, and I get AAAs for free at work.

It looks like these will drop right in, or could be made to with a little dremel action.

Is there room for a DC-DC driver board somewhere in there? If so, what DX board would you all recommend? Hows this one? I figure I'll pick up at least 2-3 in case I screw up.

-OR- this 3-pack

Run times are not terribly important, so long as I get ~45-60 minutes out of it before it starts to dim appreciably.

One question I have is how do you guys solidly mount the driver board, so the DC-DC circuit does not get pushed up into the back of the LED star? The + battery terminal is going to want to push up on the driver right?

Thanks!!! This is a really fun forum.

Kramer, I don't think this is the right place for it - I'll move it to 'Homemade & Modified', where it may do better.

AAAs are fine, but larger cells have less internal resistance.

That star will almost certainly fit.

The board is probably mounted to the other side of the aluminum that the star is mounted to.
