Heath Ledger died on Tuesday afternoon, Jan 22nd 2008 at 28 years old, leaving one child behind.

Immediately after the death, Best Buy thinks $$$ and takes a jab at profiting from his misfortune.

This manager was apparently thinking:

Ledgar died
People will have him on mind
If we put movies with Ledgar out front we profit.
Let's print out a memo
Let's make minimum wage employees bring them to the front

Honestly, that's disgusting, totally disgusting. :thumbsdow Profit before good taste, common decency, or consideration for his family.

Totally without class. The only way I'd say it's ok would be if Best Buy was going to donate a significant portion of sales of these movies to a charity or something, but only with his family's endorsement of course. Even then, I think it's too soon.

**Devils advocate mode on, is it possible that customers were asking for his works and a quick thinking employee thought lets put it all in one place so those who are here asking and buying his works have an easier experience? Devils advocate mode off**

I saw nothing of a managers memo Handlo?

So, it would be perfectly appropriate if a car dealership employee puts up a mannequin of a pornstar overlooking the street just because a customer asked?

In quickbeam's scenario the customer didn't ask the store to make that little display, the store just put their most popular merchandise upfront.

Double Yew Tee Eff? I wont even attempt to grasp that asinine logic.

Now if there were a corporate level edict that went out instructing all stores in the chain do this in that short of a period after his death then yes it would be in bad taste.

I think that who ever sold a Picasso, Rembrandt, DaVinci....etc for extreme profit would take issue, did Best Buy double or even inflate the price of any works by/including Heath Ledger?
Its been a long known fact that when an artist passes their body of work may increase in value.

Just my 2 cents and I'm off to my local auto dealership with an insane request.........:tinfoil:

The mode of logic hando appears to be using is the use of simile to convey his disgust via pornographic imagery. I once saw the both the tragic subjects of war and tragic fire deaths employed on the cover of a newspaper to increase sales/circulation. i was notably horrified but YMMV.

Funny, that's what I was thinking. I'm not taking sides here but sometimes we tend to jump to conclusions too quickly. Wars get started this way, I suppose it's an unfortunate aspect of human nature.

Yeah, just because some schmuk with a blog got some second hand story about this happening isn't gonna make me judge Best Buy just because this guy decided to put a negative slant on it.
And looking at it by itself, I think it's kind of cool that they are paying tribute to an actor that they may have really liked and will miss.

I don't think that the manuever was in poor taste at all. The only thing that irks me about Best Buy is the fact that they do not stock either SureFire, or Pelican lights.

well lets see... the guys heirs will get some royalties from these sales so in a way it isn't all bad. They do similar things on anniversaries of peoples deaths, like Princess Di, Elvis, JFK.... etc.

I'd have thought about doing this if I was the manager.
