I did what they're suggesting. Took my C-style tail and removed the smooth cap. Bought a 2x123 and used the knurled cap from it on my C-style tail. It costs $45 and some elbow grease to remove the cap from the C-style tail, but it's worth it to me. Only downside is that now I have a 2x123 tube with a smooth cap on it. But the caps can be swapped so I can have either a 1x123 or a 2x123 with a knurled cap/switch on it.

I spent a day trying to get the smooth tail off on a spare C type clickie.

Freezing, Boiling, wrench straps did nothing. At this poing, I'll just pay for one :sick2:

I feel your pain, took me a day and a half to get mine off. Cold, then heat, then tapping or squeezing down on the cap, another good blast with a heat gun and then strap wrenches and it finally came off. Louie, another member, got his off by squeezing his in a vise and compressing it, I got mine off by tapping down on the cap with a rubber mallet. I think this step breaks the red loctite. YMMV.

If you've got the cash to bypass the frustration and have a willing seller, then go for it. Good luck in your search.

Just an FYI I received one of the Lighthound knurled 17670 tubes today.The knurled section would spin right off. The problem is the Type C I purchased was very stubborn. Haven't decided whether to attempt breaking the bond is worth the effort either.
