arc aaa le sucumbs to the keyring of death

i purchased an arc aaa limited edition when they were first offered.
it finally quit today.
started flickering and getting dim.
i rollcrimped it and resoldered the contact and it worked a few days and died totally.
tried the head on another aaa body just to make sure it was the head that failed.
btw this unit has outlasted 20 or more mag solitaire lights on this keyring of death.
the mags were lucky to live a month.
1 drop=1bulb
i wish i remembered the exact date i put this unit in service.
iirc it was from the first lot of le offered and did not have the roll crimp.

You're the last person for me to offer repair advice to :laughing: (Mr Electronics repair), however, since you didn't mention it, I will.

Oxidation. If the threads are really dirty and covered with oxidation, changing bodies wouldn't make a difference. Try power directly to the head. I'd also try to get some de-oxidizer under the crimp. And oxidation on the negative contact in the tube can be another major problem area.

If it is dead, then you've got ARC's lifetime warranty, still honored by the new company - a real class act.

So in essence you are saying the Arc went to the dark side!

I'm with KL on this one - did you clean the contacts really well? Inside the batt tube, batt tube threads, head's threads?

The first run was late summer/early fall of 2001. I got a second run in late fall 2001.
I still have mine but I EDC the new DS model.

i already tried all the normal stuff and its dead....R.I.P
i will try to take a pic.
its well worn but still mechanicly fine.
it still looks better then a mag looks after only 6 months.
sent an email to see where to send it.
